Google il omagiaza pe Heinrich Rudolf Hertz

Giganticul Google, omagiaza 155 de ani de la nasterea fizicianului german Heinrich Rudolf Hertz  printr-un Google doodle. Heinrich Rudolf Hertz , este primul om care a reusit transmiterea si receptionarea undelor radio iar Google, il omagiaza printr-un doodle animat, ilustrat printr-o serie de unde colorate care se propaga, precizeaza <a href=”http://www.guardian.co.uk/technology/2012/feb/22/heinrich-rudolf-hertz-google-doodle” target=”_blank”>The Guardian</a>.

Heinrich Rudolf Hertz este cel care a pus bazele teoriei electromagnetismului bazandu-se pe studiile anterioare efectuate de James Clerk Maxwell. Hertz postuleaza existenta undelor electromagnetice, descoperind undele radio, tip de radiatie electromagnetica cu lungimi de unda lungi. Reuseste sa construiasca un oscilator de putere pentru transmiterea undelor radio, si in acelasi timp reuseste si captarea lor. Inca din 1887 Hertz a observat pentru prima oara ca producerea scanteii electrice intre doua sfere de zinc este sensibil usurata daca una din sfere este iradiata cu radiatie ultravioleta. Heinrich Rudolf Hertz s-a nascut la Hamburg, si a fost pasionat inca din copilarie de fizica si de intelegerea aspectului ei dinamic. Studiaza la Berlin si Munchen, dobandind titlul de doctor la varsta de 22 de ani, pentru o lucrare referioare la inductia electromagnetica in sfere de rotatie. Devine profesor la Technische Hochschule Karlsruhe, in 1885, si demonstreaza legea inductie electromagnetice in cazul circuitelor electrice deschise, prin folosirea unui condensator de descarcare. Din 1889 a fost profesor de fizica la Rheinischen Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universitat din Bonn. Marele fizician se stinge din viata la numai 37 de ani de granulatoza lui Wegner.

Role Description

During 8 weeks (June-September 2012 period), the CERN openlab summer students attend a series of IT lectures specially prepared for them. The students also have the opportunity to attend the CERN generic student programme lectures. Visits to the accelerators and experimental areas are part of the programme, as well as as a visit to another laboratory. A report on the work project carried out is to be handed in at the end of the student stay. The application must be submitted by 30 March 2012 and the following documents should be attached to it: CV, Recommendation letter(s) by university supervisor(s), A motivation letter with an indication of the preferred area of work.

Eligibility Conditions

B.Sc., M.Sc., or Ph.D. students in Computer Science or Physics, interested in working on advanced IT projects for two months during the period June-September 2012.

Students must have their own health and accident insurance.

Students are required to apply for the adhoc visa on their own (a letter of invitation will be sent to the selected students who will request one).

A good knowledge of English is mandatory; knowledge of French would be an advantage.

What We Offer

A stipend of CHF 5000 sponsored by CERN and the CERN openlab industrial partners to cover travel, accommodation and living costs during the two-month stay.

Selection Procedure

Applications are considered by the CERN Openlab Summer Student Programme Comittee and by the future supervisors of the students. Confirmation of student placement will be made to the students by early May 2012

Fizicianul britanic Stephen Hawking poate fi lipsit de ultima posibilitate de a comunica cu lumea cu ajutorul sintetizatorului de voce. Muşchiul obrazului, cu care este pus în legătură sintetizatorul, a început să se atrofieze. Stephen Hawking, care pe 8 ianuarie va împlini 70 de ani, suferă din anii 1960 de sindromul de neuron motor şi este imobilizat într-un scaun cu rotile. În 1985 el nu a mai putu vorbi şi de atunci comunică cu ajutorul unui sintetizator de voce care era pus în funcţiune de singurul muşchi mobil. În pofida bolii, în ultimele decenii Hawking a dus o viaţă activă. El este cunoscut datorită descoperirilor sale în domeniul cosmologiei şi al gravitaţiei cuantice şi datorită bestsell-urilor sale, printre care „O scurtă istorie a timpului”.
