Role Description

During 8 weeks (June-September 2012 period), the CERN openlab summer students attend a series of IT lectures specially prepared for them. The students also have the opportunity to attend the CERN generic student programme lectures. Visits to the accelerators and experimental areas are part of the programme, as well as as a visit to another laboratory. Eligibility Conditions

B.Sc., M.Sc., or Ph.D. students in Computer Science or Physics, interested in working on advanced IT projects for two months during the period June-September 2012.

Students must have their own health and accident insurance.

Students are required to apply for the adhoc visa on their own (a letter of invitation will be sent to the selected students who will request one).

A good knowledge of English is mandatory; knowledge of French would be an advantage.

What We Offer

A stipend of CHF 5000 sponsored by CERN and the CERN openlab industrial partners to cover travel, accommodation and living costs during the two-month stay.

Selection Procedure

Applications are considered by the CERN Openlab Summer Student Programme Comittee and by the future supervisors of the students. Confirmation of student placement will be made to the students by early May 2012

The post-doctoral position is currently available for 24 months in the team Canalopathies: cystic fibrosis and other diseases, of Research Center “Croissance et Signalisation”, INSERM U845, Faculté Necker, Paris, France.

Length of study can range from one week, usually during a domestic break, to an academic year, encompassing a couple academic terms, to an entire degree program that spans several years. The most common are semester long programs that cover either the spring or fall semester. There are also winter and summer semester programs. The winter semester programs, for public, 4-year universities, are usually more focused on a specific area of the countries culture due to the shortened time students have in the country.

Hiriko a fost dezvoltata de un grup de firme mici din Tara Bascilor(Spania) care a incheiat deja contracte de vanzare cu municipalitatile oraselor Malmo (Suedia), Berlin, Barcelona, Vitoria-Gasteiz (al doilea mare oras din Tara Bascilor), San Francisco, Hong-Kong, Quito si insulele Galapagos.

Grupul discuta totodata vanzarea a 100 de astfel de masini orasului Bruxelles si se afla in negocieri cu autoritatile din Paris, Londra, Amsterdam, Geneva, Boston, Dubai si Abu Dhabi, a declarat un reprezentant al grupului, Gorka Espiau. El a precizat ca numele Hiriko nu are origine japoneza, ci basca, si inseamna “urban”.

Proiectul este revolutionar, motorizarea fiind inclusa in roti, iar habitaclul culiseaza pentru a permite parcarea facila. Bateria va fi inchiriata, pentru a se tine cont de evolutia rapida a tehnologiei in domeniu.

Hiriko are o autonomie urbana de 120 de kilometri si poate atinge o viteza de 50 de kilometri pe ora.

Ideea acestei masini pliabile a fost lansata de laboratorul MIT-Media din Boston, dat a fost dezvoltata si produsa de un grup de sapte mici firme basce, reunite intr-un consortiu numit Hiriko.

Fiecare dintre aceste firme produce unul dintre modulele care intra in componenta masinii, iar ideea novatoare este infiintarea unor fabrici de asamblare in orasele interesate de model.

Protestele din România au ajuns subiect de discuţie şi în Parlamentul European de la Strasbourg. Nou-alesul Preşedinte, Martin Schulz, i-a recomandat guvernului de la Bucureşti să-i ia în serios pe manifestanţi pentru că ei au ieşit în stradă mânaţi de lipsa oricărei speranţe pentru ei şi pentru copiii lor.
